ZARA LARSSON
Zara Maria Larsson was born on December 16, 1997, in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden. She grew up in a supportive musical environment with her parents, Agnetha and Anders Larsson, and her younger sister Hanna, who would later also pursue music. Zara’s entry into the world was dramatic — she was born with complications and lacked oxygen briefly, a moment her family later described as life-threatening. Despite this rocky start, she recovered and began showing early signs of talent.
From a young age, Zara was drawn to music and performance. She participated in theatrical productions and local singing events as a child, nurturing her vocal abilities and stage confidence.
Zara’s big break came in 2008, at just 10 years old, when she won Talang, the Swedish version of the Got Talent television series. Her final performance of “My Heart Will Go On” captivated audiences across Sweden, earning her both the competition title and national attention.
Following this success, she released her first single — a cover of the song she performed on the show — which charted in Sweden for several weeks. This early exposure laid the foundation for her future music career.
In 2012, Zara signed her first professional recording contract with TEN Music Group in Sweden. She released her debut extended play (EP), Introducing, in January 2013. The standout track from this project was “Uncover”, which quickly became a hit, topping charts in Sweden and Norway and earning multi-platinum certifications.
Building on this early success, Zara released her first studio album, 1, in 2014. While primarily successful in Scandinavia, this album established her as a major new pop voice in Swedish music.
International Breakthrough: Global Hits and So Good (2015–2018)
Zara’s career took a major leap forward in 2015 when she signed a contract with Epic Records in the United States. Her early international breakthrough came with singles like “Lush Life” and “Never Forget You,” which became global hits and charted in multiple countries across Europe, Oceania, and North America.
In 2017, she released So Good, her first album marketed internationally. This record featured collaborations with artists like MNEK, Clean Bandit, and others — including the hit “Symphony” with Clean Bandit — and further solidified her global standing.

During this period, Zara also performed at major events, including UEFA Euro 2016 ceremonies with the official anthem “This One’s For You”, showcasing her crossover appeal in sports and pop culture.
After touring extensively, Zara continued evolving her sound. Her third studio album, Poster Girl, was released in 2021, featuring singles like “Ruin My Life” and deeper lyrical themes reflecting personal growth and empowerment.
Throughout these years, Zara also became known for her bold public voice on issues such as women’s rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and body positivity — using her platform to speak on social issues as much as on her music.
In February 2024, Zara released her fourth studio album, Venus, showcasing matured songwriting and production. She followed this with an international tour, performing across Europe and North America.
In 2025, her fifth studio album Midnight Sun dropped to widespread acclaim. Its title track was nominated for a Grammy Award, marking one of her most significant career achievements to date.
Beyond music, Zara also starred in a Netflix film and continued expanding her creative horizons in entertainment.
Zara’s music blends pop, dance-pop, R&B, and electronic elements, characterized by catchy hooks, confident vocals, and themes of love, empowerment, and independence. She credits artists from classic vocalists to contemporary pop stars as influences on her musical development.
Her work reflects both her Swedish roots and global pop sensibilities, making her one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music.
Throughout her career, Zara Larsson has earned numerous awards — including Grammis Awards (Sweden’s equivalent of the Grammys), MTV European Music Awards, and others — and amassed a global fanbase.
Her influence extends beyond music into fashion, activism, and digital culture, where she remains a strong presence with millions of followers across platforms. Zara Larsson continues to be a powerful voice for a generation, using her platform not just to entertain, but also to champion causes she cares about. Her ability to evolve stylistically and speak openly on personal and social topics has earned her respect both inside and outside the music industry.
